Fed funds futures hardly budged on the inflation data, and imply nearly no chance of a rate hike next week, and about a 45% chance of another hike by year's end. The S&P 500 (.SPX) rose 0.1% and futures rose 0.2% in Asia. European futures were flat. The euro has been supported this week by creeping expectations for the European Central Bank to hike rates on Thursday, though analysts say it may struggle for further gains. The New Zealand dollar was also firmer at $0.5941, while the dollar slipped about 0.2% to buy 147.11 yen .

Mississippi hunters just broke the state record for the largest alligator ever caught. These hunting programs help control alligator populations and fund state wildlife agencies. This has drawn attention to the state's alligator hunting program, which may provide more benefits for the reptiles than you might think. Because of this system, state officials were able to track the 776 alligators that were harvested in Mississippi in 2021. It's best for both the alligators and humans to keep their populations separate, at least from a public relations standpoint, Watkins said.

Disgraced musician R. Kelly and Universal Music Group must pay more than $500,000 in music royalties to his sexual abuse victims, a New York judge ruled. As part of his sentencing in the case, Kelly, Universal and Sony Music Entertainment were ordered to pay his half-million dollar debut. Universal Music Group is holding at least $567,444.19. Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday. Kelly, 56, was found guilty in September 2021 on nine counts of sex trafficking and racketeering in a high-profile sex trafficking case.

Severe storms with heavy rains the evening of August 14 brought a flash flood to the doors of District Dogs Northeast. Ten dogs, including Maple, Malee and Zeni, died in the flooding, WJLA reported. A first responder carries out a dog from District Dogs Northeast in Washington DC. A few days into the trip, they noticed a missed call and later received a text from District Dogs asking them to call back. Garro said Hensley told him there was flooding, some dogs died and “your dog was one of them.” Hensley told him.
